Apple iPhones have always been at the top of the leaderboard when it comes to the newest and hottest smartphones. With the two most recent iPhones, the 8 and the X making just as big of a fuss as the previous, it might come as a shock that the iPhone X might not even see its first birthday. Crazy but true, Apple is due to cancel its most expensive iPhone yet, right as they are set to release their newest model.

Ming Chi-Kuo is an infamous Apple analyst, who is known to be the most reliable when it comes to his Apple predictions. Chi-Kuo has also been named “the most accurate Apple analyst in the world” by Business Insider, and with his latest theory on the new iPhone X, it is hard to not to take his word. He was recently quoted saying, “iPhone X would hurt product brand value & lineup of 2H18 new models if it continues to sell at a lower price after 2H18 new models launch: Lowering iPhone X’s price after the 2H18 new models launch would be a negative to product brand value given 3D sensing and OLED display are features of the new high-price model. Additionally, to sell iPhone X at a lower price may have a negative impact on shipments of the new 6.1″ LCD iPhone in 2H18. Thus, we estimate iPhone X will reach end-of-life (EOL) around the middle of 2018.” With this statement, it is likely that by this summer the current iPhone X may no longer exist.

So, will these predictions come true? As of right now, they are just predictions, and unless Apple confirms these theories, we will not know until the time comes around. So, we decided to ask a few high schoolers on their opinions of the newest iPhone; from what phone they currently have, to how they feel about the ridiculous price tag. Hannah Deshotels 10th grade was quoted saying, “I have the 6, and the only really good thing about the X is the camera, but it’s way too overpriced.”  The same thought of overpricing continued as we asked Andy Feddersen 10th grade on his thoughts, “I have the 8+. I think the iPhone X is a great phone with a great camera, but it is overpriced because a lot of its features are not only on that phone.”  While these may have only been two people’s opinions, from the look of things, the whole idea of overpricing for only one fantastic feature doesn’t seem to have everyone jumping on the new phone. With that thought, the fate of the current iPhone X doesn’t look very promising, at least for now.
