Brett Kavanaugh has recently been sworn in as our 114th Supreme Court Justice after much debate. Kavanaugh is a profound conservative. The addition of Justice Kavanaugh will make a total of five conservations on the Supreme Court Justice. Kavanagh has substantial experience in assisting in many controversial topics such as Clinton’s impeachment. He has taken the place of Justice Anthony M. Kennedy. Kennedy was quite the opposite of Kavanaugh which raises the reluctance of the people of America.

Kavanaugh was accused of sexual assault by three women previously in his life. Considering he has been sworn into Senate, meaning he must have been cleared of these charges.  Initially, Christine Blasey Ford came forward in accusing Kavanaugh of assaulting her. Following her was Deborah Ramirez and Julie Swetnick. The FBI began an investigation on Kavanaugh to address if the allegations of the three women were true. Once they had finished their research, they delivered their findings to the Congress, and they voted a couple of days later. These accusations were shot down when he was sworn in on October 6th with a 50 to 48 vote meaning he had to be cleared of these.

Kavanaugh has arguable positions on some issues. One of the most important being the Roe vs. Wade case regarding abortion.  His ideas may not directly overturn the ruling by the Roe vs. Wade case, but it is assumed he will make some changes. Many politicians believe that he will enact laws that will make it much harder for women to receive an abortion.  As of right now, states are not allowed to stop a woman from getting an abortion in any way. In a way, Kavanaugh’s future decisions could give more power to the states regarding abortions. Kavanaugh’s standpoint is in correlation with Trump. There are also expected changes in gay rights, transgender rights, and decisions regarding the environment.

Knowledge about Kavanaugh is scarce within high schools. Many are strewed away from solely based on the accusations made about him. When asked if Kavanaugh will be successful as Supreme Court Justice, Caitlin Griffin, a junior, says “No, because Kavanaugh has already started his position with these awful allegations.” Another student, Grace Adams, agrees “No, regardless of if the accusations were false, the way he held himself at the hearings just shows that he will not be a good candidate.” The debate won’t be settled until Kavanaugh makes some changes in his new positions.
